Starting in 1947, under the name Malayan Airways Limited (MAL), Singapore Airlines are among one of the oldest airlines still running today. They have been ranked as the world's best airline by Skytrax four times, and have won many other awards over the years including most recently 'Asia’s Leading Airline 2019' at the World Travel Awards, and 'Best Airline in the World' at TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice 2019 Awards.
Singapore Airlines are known as a premium airline, with a strong focus on service. They currently offer five classes for flying, including suites, first class, business class, premium economy and economy.
They currently fly, with their subsidiary airlines SilkAir and Scoot, to over 130 destinations across the world from their primary hub in Singapore, including all Australian and New Zealand capital cities. They are also founding members of the Star Alliance airline alliance, and partner with over 30 airlines, extending their reach to 195 countries worldwide.
Their fleet numbers 137 aircraft, including the Airbus A380 and Boeing 787.
Singapore Airlines have a wide network of destinations on offer, including the USA, Europe, South Africa, Asia, the Middle East and New Zealand. All flights will transit via Singapores Changi Airport.
Singapore Airlines run a 'Black Friday' sale for several days, which begins the day after Thanksgiving (late November) each year. They also offer a variety of other specials and offers throughout the year, such as companion sales (for two or more passengers), earlybird sales (for fares booked months in advance), as well as destination-specific sales, such as Europe, Japan, South-East Asia etc. The best way to find out about these is by signing up to their free Krisflyer program, signing up for email alerts on their website, or sign up with us, and we will let you know about all the specials!
Singapore Airlines baggage allowance varies widely depending on destination, class of travel and frequent flyer status. However, as a standard, passengers can carry
1 x piece of cabin baggage up to 7kg, and the sum of length, width and height of each piece should not exceed 115cm total. You may also bring one additional personal item, such as a laptop, handbag or coat.

Flights to the USA have higher baggage limits, with 2 x 23kg of checked baggage allowed per passenger. Business class and First Class passengers have higher baggage allowances on all flights.
You can check in to your Singapore Airlines flight on your computer or mobile device from 48 hours to 1.5 hours before your flight departs. Self check-in kiosks are also available at many airports, which are open up to 24 hours prior to your flight departure, and some airports are also offering automated bag drops (though not yet in Australia). Standard airport desk check in opens 3 hours prior to departure, or up to 48 hours prior if departing from Singapore Changi Airport.
The main frequent flyer program for Singapore Airlines is 'Krisflyer', and is free to join. Points are earned on all Singapore Airlines flights, as well as flights on their subsidies, Silk Air and Scoot, and flights with their partner airlines. You can also earn points on purchases with retail partners, hotel rooms, car hire, partner offers and more. You are able to redeem these points for flights or upgrades across the network, including with Silk Air and Scoot.
Singapore Airlines are members of the Star Alliance program, which includes other airlines such as Air New Zealand and Thai Airways.
You can log in and manage your booking either via the Singapore Airlines website or app. Seat selection does need to be paid for if done prior to check in. Once check in opens, seat selection is free (though there is still a charge for premium seating, ie seats near the front).
Singapore Changi Airport is well worth a visit, so adding in a stopover is a great idea. The airport has a huge range of things to do and see, as well as shopping, dining and entertainment options. The nearby 'Jewel Changi' shopping centre, which opened in 2019, is walking distance from the airport and a great place to spend some time.
