Malindo Air are a hybrid budget/full service carrier owned by Indonesian Lion Air. They began flying in 2013, and were the result of a low-cost carrier 'war' between Malaysia and Indonesia (after Malaysian Air Asia began flying to Indonesia). The name 'Malindo' signifies the compromise between Indonesia and Malaysia (Mal + Indo), allowing each country to have a low-cost carrier operating in the other. The airline currently flies over 800 flights weekly to over 40 destinations within Asia and to Australia, from their hub in Kuala Lumpur. They also utilise secondary hubs in Kota Kinabalu and Penang, and have a big focus on domestic Malaysia flights. Their fleet currently numbers 38 aircraft, mainly consisting of Boeing 737's. Malindo are not currently part of any airline alliances, however they do partner and have interline agreements with nine other airlines across the world, including Etihad Airways, Qatar and Turkish Airlines. Although fairly young, Malindo have made waves in the travel industry, offering really cheap fares across South-East Asia, especially from Australia. They have also received several awards within the travel industry in recent years, including a Four-Star regional airline rating from Apex, as well as the 'Malaysia Best Employer' award. They have also been awarded 'Asia Pacific Regional Airline of the Year'.
Malindo Air currently fly from Melbourne, Sydney (as of August 2019), Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. Most flights will transit via their hub in Kuala Lumpur, however they also fly direct from all cities to Bali (great for Aussie travelers). After stopping in KL, passengers can fly to a range of destinations across South East Asia, particularly Malaysia and Indonesia, but also Thailand, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, India, Japan, China and more. Passengers can also take advantage of code-share flights with a range of Malindo Air partner airlines and extend their trip to Europe, the Middle East, Africa and more.
Malindo Air don't have set weekly sales, however they have sales and promotions all the time! Some past examples include their 'Anniversary Sale' (late March), their Mid-Year sale (May), Earlybird sales and 'Mega' seat sales. They also participate in sales like Boxing Day (December 26th) and Black Friday (late November, after Thanksgiving). They also often have destination-specific sales, such as discounts on flights to Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia and more. They also offer specials on their holiday packages with flights included.
Malindo, over the last year or so, have been offering amazingly cheap flights to S.E Asia, especially Bali! There is a 'Special Offers' page on their website, or you can sign up to their emails to be notified of any future deals. Or just sign up with us, and we will let you know every time there is a snazzy fare!
