Jetstar check in baggage and carry on guide
The cheapest Jetstar flight deals of all are with the airline's so-called starter fares. These are simple, no-frills tickets that come with just a carry-on bag. Standard Jetstar carry on weight is set at 7kg over two items, but that can be expanded to a total of 14kg (subject to availability on particular flights).
Jetstar check in baggage can be added to your booking by upgrading to a Plus bundle or a Max bundle – they allow basic luggage weights of 20kg and 30kg respectively. Alternatively, you can manually add bags, with a total allowable weight of up to 32kg per item.
Jetstar's loyalty program
Club Jetstar offers oodles of perks for frequent fliers on Australia's largest low-cost carrier. For $55 a year, the program includes 20% off Jetstar check in baggage and seat selection, exclusive Jetstar flight deals, and early access to Jetstar sale fares.
There's no official Jetstar points program available, but it is possible to clock up air miles by being registered with a partner rewards scheme. Just join up to Qantas Frequent Flyer, Emirates Skywards, JAL Mileage Bank, or Lotusmiles, and be sure to enter your membership number at the time of booking.
Other things to know about booking Jetstar flights
- Jetstar price guarantee – Found a Jetstar flight deal cheaper elsewhere? The airline won't just match it, they'll beat it by 10% (terms and conditions apply).
- Jetstar pet travel – Pets aren't permitted on any Jetstar flights. Transit of animals can be organized with Qantas Freight.
- Jetstar meals – Meals can either be added to your booking manually or by upgrading to a bundle. Alternatively, just choose from the on-board menu. There are small snacks, full warm meals, and a comprehensive drinks list available.
- Jetstar web check in – Most bookings enjoy speedy check in over the web. There are some exceptions, like with flights originating in the US, or for travelers who need special assistance.
- Jetstar change flight fee – Plans changed? The fee for altering your booking starts at $75 on Australia/New Zealand routes. All changes must me completed before the flight opens for check in.
