Air New Zealand originated in 1940 under the name 'Tasman Empire Airways'. They have been trading under 'Air New Zealand' since 1965 and are the official airline of New Zealand, traveling to over 20 destinations across the country, with Auckland as their hub for all flights. They are also very important in connecting the Pacific Islands, with flights to 9 different destinations in the region.
Their fleet currently numbers 114, with another 11 aircraft on order, and includes Boeing 777 and 787's, as well as Airbus A320's.
They are the recipients of many awards every year, including Tripadvisors 'Best Economy Class in the South Pacific' in 2019 and 'Australasia's Best Airline' at the World Travel Awards in 2018.
Air New Zealand offer a variety of fare types across their network, tailored to each destination to give optimal flexibility.
Air New Zealand have an extensive network across the South Pacific, including New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Hawaii, the Cook Islands and more. They also fly to South America and the United States (including Canada). They are adding flights through to New York City in late 2020.
With their partner airlines, they also service Europe (London) and Asia (including Japan, Indonesia, China and Vietnam).
The Air New Zealand sale site 'grabaseat' regularly has specials which can change daily, including return flights to the U.S from under $800 return, and $9 fares around New Zealand.
They also participate in the annual 'Black Friday' sales, which take place the day after Thanksgiving (late November).
Air New Zealand operate as a low-cost carrier on flights within the South Pacific (including Hawaii), meaning baggage and meals have to be added on to the initial fare price of their cheapest fares. All fares include free tea, coffee or water.

Online check-in is available for both domestic and international flights (except to Niue) from 24 hours prior to departure. You can check in via their website, or using the Air New Zealand app.
Self service kiosks are also available at all major New Zealand city airports, all major Australian city airports, as well as London, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Fiji.
Check in is also available at the airport counter where necessary, with desks opening and 3 hours prior to flight time.
The Air New Zealand frequent flyer program is called 'Airpoints', which is free to join. As an Airpoints member you'll earn Airpoints Dollars on all eligible Air New Zealand flights, as well as many partner airline and Star Alliance flights.
You are able to redeem these points on flights, OneUp upgrades, rental cars, hotels and even retail purchases.
