Etihad Airways have been flying since 2003 and are the national airline of the United Arab Emirates. The second biggest airline in the country after Emirates, their hub is located in Abu Dhabi and they have quickly grown to become one of the most widely recognised airlines in the world, known for their high quality of service and reasonable prices. Currently servicing over 80 cities, their fleet number 102 aircraft, with 83 more on order, and includes a range of Boeing 777 and 787's, as well as Airbus A320, A350 and A380's. Etihad are currently not part of any major airline alliance, however they have over 20 airline partners, as well as partly owning Virgin Australia. This allows Etihad to extend its reach to over 300 destinations worldwide. Etihad recently won a bunch of awards at the World Travel Awards, including 'World’s Leading Airline 2019 Overall' and 'World's Leading Airline - Customer Experience 2019'.
Etihad currently fly from three Australian cities; Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. They also service Adelaide, Perth and a range of other Australian cities by utilising their codeshare agreement with Virgin Australia. All flights are direct through to Abu Dhabi, the airlines hub, and then onwards to a range of over 80 destinations, including in the Middle East, Europe, the United States and Asia.
Although Etihad don't run set weekly or monthly sales like some airlines, they do feature a variety of different sales throughout the year! Some recurring ones include their Global Sale (in January), Boxing Day (December 26th), Black Friday (after Thanksgiving), and others. They may also feature flash sales, Earlybird sales (for fares booked several months in advance), companion sales (for two or more passengers in one booking) and destination-specific sales, with discounted fares to the U.S, Europe, Asia and more.
We have noticed over the last year plenty of amazing Etihad fares, such as Europe return for under $1000.
There is a dedicated 'special offers' page on their website, or you can sign up to their emails to be notified of any future deals. Or just sign up with us, and we will keep you in the loop!
All flights across the Etihad network include checked baggage and meals, though they have many different fare types, which can get confusing. Economy Class passengers have four options: Economy Deal, Saver, Classic and Flex. Business Class passengers have three options: Business Saver, Classic and Flex. All have different price points and inclusions. As a standard;
Economy flights have a cabin baggage allowance of 1 x 7kg, plus 1 x (up to) 5kg personal item, such as a handbag, laptop or coat. The minimum checked baggage allowance is 1 x 23kg for Economy Deal fares, with the limit increasing depending on fare type and destination.
Business passengers have a cabin baggage allowance of 1 x 12kg, plus 1 x (up to) 5kg personal item. The minimum checked baggage allowance is up to 40kg, with no single piece weighing more than 32kg.
First Class passengers have a cabin baggage allowance of 1 x 12kg, plus 1 x (up to) 5kg personal item. The minimum checked baggage allowance is up to 50kg, with no single piece weighing more than 32kg. First Class flights are only able to be booked on certain routes.
Flights to the Americas have a higher baggage allowance across all fare types, your best bet is to check your ticket, your booking online or with your agent to get your exact baggage allowance.
You can check in for your Etihad flight either online, via the Etihad app (available for both iOS and Android), or in person at the airport.
Check in via the app or online opens 70 hours prior to departure. You can also choose seats, pay for extras or upgrade. You can also print your boarding passes from home, and in some cases drop luggage using the self-serve kiosks at some airports. If there is no self-serve kiosk, passengers can check their baggage at the Etihad counter at the airport.
To check in at the airport counter, check directly with the airport website for the exact time the counter opens. However, in general check-in counters are open 3 hours prior to departure for international flights. Please note that if the first sector of your flight is with another airline, ie Virgin, you must check in online or at the airport with them.
'Etihad Guest' is the name of the airlines frequent flyer program, and allows passengers to earn points on Etihad flights, as well as flights with partner airlines, stays at partner hotels, dining, banking, car hire and retail outlets. Miles can be spent on flights, upgrades, bookings with 'Etihad Holidays', at the Etihad shop, or they can even be donated. There are four tiers to the Etihad Guest program, beginning at entry-level with Bronze, and heading through Gold and Silver status to Platinum. There are various extra benefits associated with being an Etihad Guest member, including extra baggage allowances, lounge access, priority boarding and more.
