Anchored on a few lazy fishing quays around the Vanuatu National Museum, Port Vila is the most buzzing town in all of Vanuatu. It's the capital and also the main hub of the islands, which is why cheap flights to Port Vila from Australia are so sought after – come here and you could soon be diving through coral gardens in Espiritu Santo, jumping into waterfall plunge pools in greater Efate, or watching smoke steam from volcanic vents in Tanna. Of course, staying in town a while is also a doozy, especially as that means you get to navigate the stacks of coconuts and mangoes and shell jewelry in the city's traditional market.
Choose Champagne Beach for romance, or hit the Millennium Cave for canyoneering adventures with local Ni Van guides, all on stunning Espiritu Santo island.
You can bathe in hot springs or scramble up gurgling volcanos if you make the hop from Port Vila to the wild isle of Tanna.
Come and watch sugarcane, mangoes, plums, and plantains stack and topple from the South Sea stalls of the Port Vila Market.
