Virgin Australia has officially taken flight into nostalgia with a brand-new Disney collaboration, unveiling a fully themed “Toy Story 5” aircraft that’s already turning heads across the country. The Boeing 737-800, revealed on May 25, 2026, features beloved Pixar characters Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and Jessie wrapped across its exterior in a vibrant, storybook-style livery. The aircraft will begin operating across Virgin Australia’s domestic network ahead of the film’s Australian cinema release on June 18, 2026, marking a playful new chapter in airline branding.

This isn’t just a fresh coat of paint - it’s Virgin Australia’s first co-branded aircraft livery in almost a decade, and it arrives at a time when airlines are increasingly leaning into entertainment partnerships to elevate the passenger experience. The Toy Story franchise itself is a cultural heavyweight, first debuting in 1995 as Pixar’s groundbreaking animated feature and going on to become one of the most beloved film series in history. Now, more than 30 years later, its characters are literally taking to the skies once again.
The timing aligns with the global rollout of “Toy Story 5,” set for June 2026, and Virgin Australia is turning the launch into a full-scale travel experience rather than just a visual spectacle. From June 1, passengers flying domestically will begin receiving themed colouring packs for children, while onboard entertainment will include the entire Toy Story catalogue alongside more than 60 Disney films. Between June 15 and July 19, an interactive in-flight game will also run across domestic services, giving travellers the chance to win a Pixar-themed experience in Tokyo.

Beyond the cabin, the experience continues on the ground. The airline is introducing “Toy Tickets,” a whimsical new initiative allowing children to print boarding passes for their favourite stuffed toys - a concept inspired by a real-life moment where a lost teddy was reunited with its young owner after a Virgin Australia flight. Select airport lounges and terminals will also feature Toy Story-themed activations, while Velocity Frequent Flyer Platinum Plus members will be among the first to access exclusive screenings of the upcoming film.

What makes the campaign especially noteworthy is how it blends aviation, film history, and family travel into a single immersive experience. Industry observers have pointed out that collaborations like this are part of a broader shift in aviation marketing, where airlines are competing not just on routes and prices, but on storytelling and emotional engagement. With Woody and Buzz now flying above Australian skies, Virgin Australia is aiming to turn everyday travel into something closer to a Pixar-style adventure.
As the aircraft enters service in the lead-up to June 18, 2026, it’s expected to be seen by hundreds of thousands of passengers across the country. And while Toy Story has always been about friendship, imagination, and “to infinity and beyond,” this latest collaboration brings those themes to life in a very real way - somewhere between gate departure and cruising altitude.
