Woman Travelling to Spain Somehow Ends Up in the Ukraine

How did this happen!?

On Sunday, Inka Fileva boarded what she thought was a Ryanair flight to Valenica, in the south of Spain, where her boyfriend was waiting for her to go on a quick holiday.

However, upon arrival, she quickly realised she had not made it to Valencia, and instead of holidaying in Spain, it seemed she was stuck in the Ukraine. At least they rhyme.

Even worse – there is no Ryanair office at the Kiev airport.

Ms Fileva spoke about her situation on her Facebook page:

“I don’t understand how my ticket got scanned and passed and how I came here without a visa…I didn’t understand how my ticket got scanned and they let me go to Kiev. I was flying from Stansted Airport and I think I was supposed to go to gate 44, and I ended up in gate 54. …They checked my ticket a few times, I even asked on the plane what time I would arrive in Valencia, and they told me it’d be two hours and fifteen minutes long”.

Kiev doesn't look so bad to us!

Although her poor boyfriend was left waiting for her in Spain, it was actually the Kiev airport staff who had to collect her. After a bit of a wait, and an overnight stay in Kiev, Ryanair organised a flight for her back to Manchester, with an onward connection to Valencia – and in the process, the airline lost her baggage.

We would need a holiday after all that!

Working a few years ago as a travel agent, it wasn’t uncommon for a booking to San Jose California accidentally being booked as San Jose Costa Rica, or someone wanting to get to Lagos in Portugal ending up in Lagos, Nigeria.

Not ideal.
