A flight on Monday travelling from Miami to Atlanta had an extra helping of drama when it became delayed for several hours, after it was grounded due to some passenger shenanigans.
BBC reporter Suzanne Kianpour happened to be on Delta Airlines flight DL1997 as she has been covering the US Presidential election campaign, and was witness to the drama.
It seems a passenger really didn’t want to wear a mask, as video footage shot by other passengers shows an escalating altercation brewing after the man was asked to de-plane for refusing to wear a mask, before hitting a flight attendant.
Recently, a flight attendant on an American Airlines flight was given a disgraceful note from a passenger, again after being asked to wear a mask and refusing.
Following that, police boarded the aircraft and removed the man from the flight. Currently, airlines in the U.S do not have a specific policy regarding the wearing of masks onboard, leaving airlines to make their own rules around the issue.
Delta have been keeping the middle seats free on all their flights to encourage social distancing, whereas other U.S airlines have refused.
United Airlines are one of the first airlines to take part in an 'immunity passport' which allows passengers to electronically provide their negative COVID-19 results.
