Tassie and South Australia Announce Easing of Border Restrictions with Victoria.

More good news for Victorians – it seems Tasmania and South Australia are set to ease their border restrictions, as cases in the troubled city of Melbourne continue to plummet.

Recently, Premier Peter Gutwein discussed opening up the islands borders to residents from NSW, saying that ‘while there were a small number of new cases emerging in the state each day, spread of coronavirus seemed to be contained’.

He said the country has been monitoring the situation carefully and they are still hopeful border restrictions between NSW and Tasmania can be eased on 2nd November.

When asked about Victoria, he said that they aimed to open borders to residents by 1st December, and would even consider opening earlier if conditions keep improving.

The island state is still on track to reopen to residents of Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, Northern Territory and the ACT as of next Monday.

South Australia has recently announced changes to the border restrictions with Victoria.

South Australia have also just announced a significant easing of its borders for Victorians, with Police Commissioner Grant Stevens saying the move will allow people from Victoria to relocate to South Australia, without needing to apply for an exemption. They will still have to undergo 14-day hotel quarantine however.

Currently, only those granted an exemption are allowed to enter South Australia from Victoria. Those living on or near the borders will also no longer need to provide a ‘reason for travel’ within the 70 kilometre ‘border bubble’.

Victoria has now had seven consecutive days of single-digit cases of Coronavirus, and restrictions were eased last Sunday, allowing residents to now travel up to 25 kilometres from their home, after more than two months of only 5 kilometres.
