South Australia announced yesterday that it would start receiving direct flights from New Zealand without the need for quarantine on arrival.
The State also announced that the twelve surprise passengers who had arrived from New Zealand since October 16, who were placed into hotel quarantine in Adelaide at their own expense, will be released shortly. The passengers had transited through Sydney from New Zealand and were considered as "direct" arrivals.
South Australia is also relaxing its border with Victoria.
Remember when Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said on television "I don't want to be offensive to South Australians, but why would you want to go there?"
Melburnians wishing to escape lockdown and make a new life for themselves in South Australia will now be able to do so:
Police Commissioner Grant Stevens said "They will have to provide specific information regarding employment or permanent accommodation. We will be able to allow that to occur without an exemption process having to be applied."
Rules for cross border communities have also been relaxed:
"If you live in a cross border community, you are able to travel freely within the 70 kilometres either side of the border, without any specific purpose being … identified."
At the time of writing it is not known when the border changes will take effect.
Victoria recorded just three new cases of COVID-19 today; making its 14 day rolling average 6.2
