New South Wales to Open Border to Victorians, As South Australia Also Relaxes Restrictions.

Woohoo! For all of our Victorian friends (we've been locked down with you), things are really, finally, starting to get back to normal.

After months being isolated from the rest of the country, locked down at home while other states were having brunch and catching up with family, we’re here.

Today, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has announced an official date for the border’s between NSW and Victoria reopening.

The date is the 23rd November, with the Premier saying on her Twitter account:

“On Monday, 23 November – the NSW/Victoria border will reopen. We need to keep moving forward as we live with COVID-19. I have confidence that everyone will continue to work hard to keep everyone safe.”

“Come a minute past midnight on November 23, there will be free movement between NSW and Victoria,” she added recently in a press interview. “Very proudly I say NSW will be the only jurisdiction in Australia that will be welcoming residents of all states, of all jurisdictions.”

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews hinted at the decision in an interview with reporters from Werribee Zoo that he had spoken with the NSW Premier, who had ‘some very exciting announcements to make’.

Ms Berejilkian also announced that QR codes will now become mandatory from November 23rd, after a restaurant in Liverpool has been linked to several new cases.

The announcement shines a light on other border closures; most notably, the QLD border remaining steadfastly closed to Sydneysiders and Victorians, as well as Western Australia.

The NSW Premier has admitted her relationship with the QLD Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk ‘remains frosty’.

Victoria has today recorded it’s fifth consecutive day with no new cases, and no deaths. Recently, the NT announced they would be opening up to regional Victorians with no need to quarantine.

In other good news for Victorians, South Australia has announced that it will be relaxing its stance on visitors from the state, allowing them to undergo their 14-day quarantine in a home environment, rather than in a hotel.

SA Premier Steven Marshall has said that Victoria needs to maintain its low COVID-19 case numbers to enjoy the more relaxed rules.

“We know this is great news for families especially in the lead-up to Christmas,” Mr Marshall said on Tuesday. “Victoria is doing well and that’s giving us confidence that we can ease those restrictions”.

Time for all us Victorians to get on the beers - in Sydney! Seriously though, who's planning a road trip this summer?
