A small passenger aircraft crashed in Ubate, Columbia on Tuesday, tragically claiming the lives of all adults on board. Miraculously, a baby cradled in his mother's arms was plucked alive from the wreckage by local rescuers.
Dr Grandas was flying his wife, Mayerly Diaz Rojas, his baby son, Martin, and their son's nanny Nuris Maza from Santa Marta to Guaymaral, in a HK 2335-G aircraft.
Rescuers say the baby's mother, Mayerly, used her body as a shield to hold her baby. Martin is being treated in hospital in a stable condition, at the Fundacion Santa Fe de Bogota University Hospital.
Civil Aviation Authorities say all paperwork for the plane was in order and up to date as they continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
