We wrote a few weeks ago about the announcement made by the Victorian government, regarding 'travel vouchers' for Victorians to use to subsidise their local trips this year.
Details have now emerged about the $28 million scheme, which will see three releases of vouchers to be used to Victorians over the summer holiday period.
Up to 120,000 vouchers will be offered to Victorian residents to contribute to the costs of accommodation, tourism attractions or tours undertaken in regional Victoria, the Yarra Ranges and the Mornington Peninsula.
Victorians who receive a voucher and spend at least $400 on accommodation, attractions or tours during their stay will be eligible to receive a reimbursement of $200 on presentation of receipts. The program works on a ‘first-come-first-served’ basis, and each round will close once all places have been filled for that particular round.
The vouchers are open to any Victorian resident over the age of 18, and each household is limited to one voucher total. Applicants must provide evidence they have spent $400 or more on the relevant travel products, of which $200 will be reimbursed.
These relevant products include:
- paid accommodation (spending a minimum of two nights in paid accommodation)
- paid tours and experiences
- entry fees to regional attractions
Exclusions include gaming, alcohol (except if alcohol is included in wine/brewery/distillery tasting type tour but excludes any alcohol purchased and consumed outside of the experience), fuel, food and drinks (except where packaged with an eligible expense such as a winery tour), groceries, personal items such as clothing and accessories, transport costs (rental vehicles, train and bus tickets).
The first release goes live tomorrow (Friday 11th) at 10:00am, with 40,000 vouchers up for grabs, and redeemable for travels between between December 12 and January 22.
The next release goes live on the 20th January, for use between 27 January - 1 April 2021, and final release is live on the 30th March, for travel during 6 April - 31 May 2021.
