Air New Zealand Drops Empty Middle Seat, Huge Sale, Removes Change Fees

Following the removal of social-distancing on public transport in New Zealand, Air New Zealand has immediately resumed selling the middle seat.

To help sell the sudden jump in available seats, the airline has released 180,000 fares on sale. 160,000 of these are under $50 NZD and 9000 are within the school holidays.

Even more good news for Air Zealand passengers - The airline has dropped change fees for domestic flights with travel dates up until 31 March 2021.

This is the second time Air New Zealand has removed on-board social distancing. Contrast this with Qantas that has always maintained that on-board cleaning and health measures mean that keeping the middle seat vacant is unnecessary.

Virgin Australia announced in April that they will be blocking out the middle seats. However, by June this had changed to an empty seat between passengers "where possible".

Unfortunately, the change in Virgin Australia seating policy did not coincide with a huge sale.
